  • Library  blogging, by Karen A. Coombs and Jason Griffey (Linworth, 2008, 151 p., $_____, ISBN: 9781586833312)

If you are interested in setting up a bog, whether in the “cloud” or internally within the school district intranet, this book will introduce the blogging software, concept, uses, and tips for creation. Here are construction tips with the most popular blog software site out there: Blogger, Wordpress, TypePad, LiveJournal, and Movable Thype. An important chapter is teaching the various kinds of syndication including RSS feeds that allow your users to be notified instantly when you add information to the blog. Thus, you can communicate with your users rather than hope that they check your library website whenever they happen to think about it. Everything we do, now in libraries should take advantage of two-way communication and collaboration with patrons. It is time to abandon one way information systems because if we don’t, Google just takes over and we are ignored. If blogging is new to you or you want to get a bit more advanced, this book just might help. Recommended.
